... since my last blog post! And although I don't have many new things to report in regards to our adoption, life, as I was sharing with a friend, has suddenly 'taken off' at 100 miles per hours and I have no brakes!!
We had our biometrics appointment on Monday. I really had no idea what to expect, but I created scary, daunting images in my mind of what it would entail: weight checks, measurements, body analysis, rubber gloves, needles and masks ... Seriously! What a weirdo!! You can take my blood, have me pee in a cup, give me a test.... but let's not 'buddy up' with a scale, people!
Our appointments were scheduled for 12:00 on Monday. We left at about 10:30 since we weren't exactly sure where the USCIS building was. I was extra thankful for technology, as our GPS did in fact bring us to the correct building... but we discovered that we would have missed it on our own. The "Application Center" as it was labeled on the outside of the building, was in a strip mall next to LeeAnn Chin's and attached to L.A. Fitness! We were expecting something a little more... government-like??
Thankfully this was such a quick and easy ordeal! Fill out a little bit of paperwork, sit in these designated seats until your number is called, do some (more!) fingerprinting, DONE! That was it!! Alleluia!
When we were done I made Ryan stop & pose with me for a picture with our papers outside the building. (no cameras are allowed inside). He was beyond thrilled to do this. Or not. Because the facility is actually on a very busy street, with a lot of traffic. And it just so happens that as we were trying to take a picture of ourselves with my phone, traffic was stopped in front of us... and I'm pretty sure that the car of Hispanics? Somalians? (I didn't look very closely, but I know they were not Norwegians)... I'm pretty sure they thought we were taking pictures of THEM, and they started speaking really fast and loud in accents that I was having trouble decoding, and pointing at us, and they rolled down their windows... Ryan was gritting through his teeth, "Take the picture!!" And I'm saying... "Smile, Hon, this is a big deal!" And he's probably thinking... "In 5 seconds it just might be a big deal!" Good grief, we're crazy. But we had a good laugh when we got into the car and it'll make for a good memory in this journey. :)
We are hoping that our wait for clearance will not be too long. Once USCIS gives us clearance, then we get to send off our dossier!! So thankful to have gotten to this step! I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, my friends!!
