November 4 -- Orphan Sunday

Today is Orphan Sunday.  It was started by Christian Alliance for Orphans.  Its intent is to bring awareness of orphans around our globe... "to care for the child that has no family... to visit the orphans in their distress."  It's also a great reminder to us that Christ has not left us as spiritual orphans.

I'm kind of kicking myself because had I been more on top of it and planned ahead, I would have loved to have a table set up at church, or host something at home.  I feel such a sense of responsibility to raise awareness for children.  Those often without a voice.

But... now that I'm thinking about it... this whole month is Adoption Awareness Month, so... I do have 26 more days!! Now my wheels are turning. :)

A little update about our adoption :

Well, we're not exactly sure where our dossier is right now (!) ... but we do know that it's somewhere it's supposed to be. :)

The kids and I sent off our dossier to a courier service 2 weeks ago.   That was a Monday I believe.  The courier service got it to the US Embassy, and then the Ethiopian Embassy.  But... on Friday October 26th the Ethiopian Embassy was closed for an Ethiopian holiday.  Then Hurricane Sandy hit, which closed all governmental offices in DC on Monday and Tuesday.  Our courier service was to pick up the dossier on Wednesday and send it off to our agency.  So now we're waiting for confirmation that our dossier made it to our adoption agency.. and then it can go off to Ethiopia!

My sweet friend recently asked what we were going to do with our extra time now that our dossier is done.  Well.. we actually have more training hours to fulfill!  Our agency really does a fabulous job preparing families as best they can.  So we each have (I believe) 10 more hours of training before we can travel to Ethiopia.  So part of our wait will be doing those hours, I'll continue to read some great literature, and of course... we will be praying and waiting anxiously for that special email or phone call, hopefully this spring.

All in His time...
